Beer Braised Slow Cooker Flank Steak

A delicious copycat flank steak recipe from our favorite local neighborhood diner on Long Island. This homemade version for beer braised slow cooker flank steak is tender and a family favorite. Try and enjoy!

 

A while back, we had dinner in a local diner that we go to often.

 My husband ordered from the dinner specials that night. It was for flank steak.  Not something he would usually order.

But, he said he was going to try something different.

He really enjoyed the dish and said it was so tender and had a great flavor that was really tasty.

So, I figured I’d to ask the waiter if he knew how they made the steak. It was called “Braised Flank Steak” The waiter said he thinks they cook the meat with beer in a slow cooker.

That’s all I needed to hear. The next week, I bought a flank steak and a bottle of beer and made up a recipe.

My hubs loved it and he said it was better than the diner.

This recipe is very simple and easy to prepare thanks to my trusty slow cooker. 

I’ve made it a couple of times and this time around, I served the recipe for beer braised slow cooker flank steak with fresh asparagus that was just sautéed with a little olive oil and a sprinkling of garlic powder and sea salt.

I also served mashed potatoes.

Here is my copycat version of KFC mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes tastes so good with the sauce. Any side dish you choose will be great with this delicious flank steak.

Just one more thing…

we had plenty of leftovers, (My son was away for the weekend otherwise it would have been done that night.)

So, any leftovers can be frozen for up to a month.

Or, make yourself a cold steak sandwich on a nice crusty roll the next day which is exactly what my husband did.

The older pics show the meat was seared longer.

Either way, the meat came out so tender and juicy. A real winner of a recipe! 

 

Beer Braised Slow Cooker Flank Steak

Yields: 4 to 6 servings, depending how hungry each person is!

 

 

 

What goes into a beer braised slow cooker flank steak recipe other than the steak and beer?

Here are the everyday ingredients:

  • 2 lbs. flank steak, trimmed of all fat
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1/4 cup beef stock
  • 1 1/4 cups light beer

 

 

 

How do you make this delicious recipe?

 

Here are the most simple directions:

  1. Mix together all of the spices and rub onto the flank steak
  2. Heat a grill or skillet, (I like this Grill Pan, it’s dependable and like that it’s oven safe too.) over medium high heat. Drizzle grates with olive oil or heat in skillet.
  3. Grill or sear the steak for 2 minutes on each side
  4. Add to the (Slow Cooker This is my new favorite slow cooker) Pour beer and stock over top. Cook on low for 8 hours until tender. Slice up and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp paprika, can used smoked paprika too
  • 1 tsp each onion and garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 cup beef stock
  • 1 1/4 cups light beer

Instructions
