I can’t think of anything better to drink on a chilly morning or evening. 

it’s really cold  here in New York today. I just made this for my 3 favorite people: my wonderful family.

They all loved it and I loved making it for them.

No even would suspect that this was lower in calories and fat than an original hot chocolate beverages.

Decadent Lower Fat Hot Chocolate

Yields: 3 small to medium mugs

Nutrition: calories 145.6, fat 2.8 g

What you’ll need to make your own decadent lower fat hot chocolate?


Ingredients
:

  • 2 heaping tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (natural works better than Dutch processed in this recipe)
  • 3 tbsp sugar, or use no calorie sugar substitute 
  • 2 1/2 cups skim or 1% milk
  • 1/2 cup fat free half and half,  OR you can use almond milk in place of skim milk and fat free half and half
  • 1/4 cup semi sweet mini chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp cocoa powder for sprinkling on top
  • 2 tbsp. aerosol whipped topping
  •  few mini marshmallows, both optional

Directions
:

  1. In a heavy saucepan, mix together the sugar and cocoa powder with a wire whisk. If you have a flat wire whisk, this works great for the corners.
  2. Stir in the milk and half and half, or, if you’re using all almond milk. 
  3. Whisk until well blended over medium heat until thoroughly heated. Do not boil, just until you see some hot steam in the pot. 
  4. Take off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and mini chips until melted.
  5. Pour into small to medium size mugs. Enjoy!
