Patriotic Butter Cookies

This is a fantastic cookie recipe that’s so versatile. Change around the decorations for any occasion and holiday. You can leave them plain too. Today I’m calling these Patriotic Butter Cookies for their fun and yummy red, white, and blue M&M candies on top. I bet they will be your go-to cookie recipe. They have a great texture and are buttery and slightly chewy.  

 

 

 

 

This is a copycat recipe from my friend Nicole and her daughter Gianna who happens to be my son Josh’s friend.

Both Nicole and Gianna are great cooks and bakers. We have been to their house many times for amazing meals. A few years back our whole family was invited for Christmas Eve. Nicole had been cooking and baking for days and she put out such an amazing selection. 

Now back to these cookies, The recipe is one Nicole made  when we were there for a fourth of July barbeque.

We loved them so much, I asked her for the recipe and funny thing is, she had it written out already because she knew I would be asking for it. 

What I really like about the recipe is not only do they taste so delicious but it has basic everyday ingredients that you probably have in your pantry and fridge. Nothing fancy and yet, these come out so good.

The cookies melt in your mouth and are chewy and delicious.

They make the most wonderful Christmas and Easter cookies.

My son and I always have fun decorating the cookies with all different edible decorations. The cookies pack well so they’re great for gifts. 

 

Patriotic Butter Cookies

Makes about 32 cookies

 

 

What are the ingredients that go into these patriotic butter cookies?

 

Here Are The Simple Everyday Ingredients:

  •  all purpose flour
  •  sea or kosher salt
  •  baking soda
  •  unsalted butter melted and cooled
  •  granulated sugar
  •  light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  •  vanilla extract
  •  Red White and Blue M&M candies for topping (For this recipe)

How are these patriotic butter cookies made?

 

Here Are The Simple Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees, line two cookie sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the melted butter along with the sugars until creamy. Add in the vanilla and eggs until well combined.
  3. In a medium mixing bowl whisk together the  flour along with the salt and baking soda. Slowly add that into the wet mixture. Dig deep into the bottom of the bowl to make sure all dry ingredients are well incorporated. Try not to over mix.
  4. Chill dough for about 2 hours.
  5. Using a small to medium cookie scoop place balls onto cookie sheet and lightly press down with M&Ms.
  6. Bake for about 8 minutes or just until edges start to turn a little golden. The center will still be on the softer side. Try not to over bake if you want a chewy cookie. Let cookie sheet cool on wire rack for about 15 minutes then slide paper off onto wire rack to cool another 15 minutes.

      * Recipe note: Cookies can be stored in an air tight container up to 3 days on counter or in fridge up to 6 days. You can also freeze up to 1 month.
