3 Sticks of ButterWhat would we do without butter? We spread on toast, add to lots of baked goods and of course we add butter to mashed potatoes. Here’s a few hacks and tricks that I came across over the years and have worked for me. Check them out and try them. They all work!

Butter Hacks and Tricks

Soften Butter Faster:

  • Placing the stick of butter on the counter can take a few hours to soften at room temperature. Try this easy and simple way to soften butter faster, even if the butter is frozen. To speed up the process, use a grater. A cheese grater or box grater work great. The butter will soften in no time at all. Toss into your hot mashed potatoes and watch the butter melt instantly. If you prefer not to use the grater, cute up the butter with a sharp knife into thin slices. Lay out on a plate and the butter will soften up faster if it were still whole sticks.

Reusing Butter Wrappers:

  • Once you have removed the butter from it’s wrapper, use it to grease a baking pan or dish. If you don’t need it right away, fold the paper up and place in a Ziploc bag or container and keep in fridge up to 5 days.

Look for the half sticks of butter:

  • Just found out about this great item. They now have half sticks of butter. Great when a recipe calls for 1/4 cup of butter.

How long can you freezer butter:

  • To freeze butter, wrap each stick of  butter that’s in it’s original wrapper tightly in aluminum foil, plastic wrap or freezer paper, Place inside a heavy-duty freezer bag. Make sure all air is squeezed out. Frozen salted butter will generally keep up to 8-9 months. Unsalted butter up to 5-6 months.
