 Vegan Chocolate Truffles

This simple recipe for vegan chocolate truffles is so delicious you won’t believe they are made with healthy ingredients. Great for snacks, desserts and even a chocolate breakfast! Make up a batch of these gems. You’re going to love them like my whole family does.

I have been making these delicious vegan chocolate truffles for very many years.

The whole family loves them and I’m happy because I know they’re eating a healthy treat that tastes so decadent.

I even serve these at dinner parties and for very large gatherings.

They are great for potluck dinners since it’s so easy to make large batches and nice for an easy pick up dessert that needs no utensils.

We love them as a delicious treat at the end of a big meal. Not too heavy and sweet enough. It’s always nice to pop a small little treat.

Years ago when I worked in a health club, I would bring these chocolate truffles in for the other employees.

One day one of the members saw them in the staff room and asked if she could try one.

She loved them so much she asked if I could make her two batches for a dinner party she was having the upcoming weekend.

I made them for her one time then gave her the recipe.

I bumped in to this nice women years later and she said she still makes these little chocolate truffles for just about every occasion.

That put a big smile on my face.

It can be our little secret that these chocolate gems happen to be vegan…

No one even knows they are vegan or made with healthy ingredients.

  Try this easy recipe soon.

I bet whomever you make these for will adore them. Just like everyone else who has tried and enjoyed.

These are decadent vegan chocolate truffle that’s made with good, wholesome ingredients, yet tastes like a full fat truffle.

That’s how yummy they are!

Just a note…for an added decadent addition, melt some dark chocolate and dip each ball into the dark chocolate for a really rich tasting truffle.

Place in fridge until set. Or, drizzle chocolate over each truffle with a zigzag pattern. These will also have to be placed in the fridge until hardened, about an hour or so.

What’s in these delicious looking vegan chocolate truffles

Ingredients:

  •  Pitted dates are the star of these truffles,  make sure you check before you make this recipe that all the pits have been removed.
  •   Unsweetened cocoa powder, I use natural not Dutch processed for this recipe.
  •  agave, coconut nectar, date syrup, and honey are all good choices. In some cases honey may not be considered vegan, that is up to you.
  • A few drops all natural Stevia sweetener to taste is an optional choice. Sometimes you may want these chocolate truffles a bit sweeter, you can always use more of the sticky sweetener above. You’ll know how you like them.
  • Some cold water is needed to make these truffles.
  • Slivered almonds are the nut of choice for texture. But, you can swap out your favorite nut of choice.
  • Almond meal, coconut flour, oat flour will all work, or if you don’t have any of these, believe it or not, plain bread crumbs can fill in and it will work just fine.
  • Got to have vanilla extract, it adds a richness to these chocolate truffles.
  • A pinch fine sea or kosher salt is necessary to balance out all the sweetness. It does make a difference without salt. For the same reason salt is added to baked goods.
  • Mini vegan chocolate chips are the other star of these dark chocolate truffles. I used a stevia sweetened chocolate chip called Lily’s. Or, use any good quality dark, semisweet, or bittersweet chocolate. All will work just beautifully in the recipe.
  • Powdered sugar for dusting on top, this is optional but, it adds a lovely, pretty touch. Don’t you think so too?

How are these vegan chocolate truffles made

Directions:

  1. Using a mini chopper or food processor, start with the dates and almond flour (Remember to check that all pits have been removed. I chopped the dates before placing them in the chopper).
  2. Add the almonds, cocoa powder, honey, salt and vanilla.
  3. Add the water a little at a time until you get a consistency that you would be able to roll up into little balls.
  4. Place mixture in a medium bowl, add in mini chocolate chips, gently fold in. Roll your little truffle balls. You should have about 16 nice size truffles.
  5. Place truffles on parchment or wax paper in the fridge for at least a half hour, and then dust with powdered sugar. Easy-peasy!
