Shortcut Tiramisu Cake Recipe

From your favorite Italian restaurant to your own kitchen. Here’s a no bake shortcut tiramisu cake recipe that’s totally decadent. You’ll love this shortcut version for a new favorite tiramisu cake recipe.

When I first got married, my husband and I were doing construction on our house and we couldn’t use the kitchen for almost two weeks.

We didn’t have kids back then so going out for dinner every night was kind of fun.

We found this new Italian restaurant that had just opened around the same time so we were regulars there.

They were so nice to us and told us to pick a dessert on the house every time we ate there; I always chose the Tiramisu.

That was after the first time I ordered. It was the very first time I even heard of tiramisu. Oh my, it was amazing.

The best dessert I had ever had back then.

So, I knew after our kitchen was finished, this was going to be the first dessert I was going to make for my hubby.

I wasn’t a food blogger all those years ago. But, I always loved cooking and baking, especially making any kind of dessert.

When in Atlanta before I got married, I was a caterer. So, creating recipes came natural to me.

Traditionally tiramisu is made with lady fingers. The restaurant didn’t use lady fingers in their recipe.

That’s probably why my husband and I loved their version so much. We are both not that fond of lady fingers. However, I’m sure if they made tiramisu was made with the lady fingers, we probably would still love it. Because, it’s the coffee and cream, and chocolate that really makes a good tiramisu.

They used an angel food cake. They baked theirs but, I wanted a dessert that could be put together in must less time and not have to bake anything.

It happened to be the middle of the summer back then and my first little house did not have air conditioning in the main living area.

Only in the bedroom so, the kitchen got really hot when I turned on the oven.

This version is so easy and simple to throw together. The only thing is it has to sit in the fridge for a few hours. So, make it in no time at all then pop in the fridge.

It’s a great company dessert.

When I became a food blogger, this was one of the first desserts I put on my first blog. I knew I would call it shortcut tiramisu cake recipe. You’ll love how easy the recipe is.

I hope you give this version a try and love it as much as we do which now includes my grown daughter and teenage son.

Tori my daughter has been on her own for a few years now, is an attorney and is a fabulous cook and baker.

She makes this a lot for company.

A few years ago when she was in college, she would send me photos and recipes she made for her and her roommates.

I started a category called “what a college girl eats” Check it out. Just put that phrase in the search bar and a bunch of her recipes come up.

Take care and enjoy!

What you’ll need to make this most delicious shortcut tiramisu cake recipe..

Ingredients:

  • brewed coffee, regular or decaf, instant coffee or espresso will NOT work for this recipe
  • granulated sugar
  • one whole angel food cake, either store bought, from a cake mix. I used a store bought to make this a shortcut recipe
  • softened cream cheese, to make this a little lighter, you can use reduced fat but NOT fat free
  • powdered sugar, sifted is best for this recipe
  • vanilla extract
  • Cool Whip or any frozen whipped topping, thawed in the fridge
  • unsweetened cocoa powder
  • shaved or curls semisweet chocolate for topping, this is optional
  • full printable recipe is below in recipe box

Here’s how this delicious looking shortcut tiramisu cake recipe made..

Directions:

1.  Have an 8 or 9 inch square baking pan ready and misted with cooking spray.(I like using a glass baking pan) Set aside until ready to fill with cake.

2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the softened cream cheese with either a wire whisk or an electric hand mixer. (I find a hand held mixer gets the creamy mixture just right) Add the powdered sugar slowly along with the vanilla extract. Whip until nice and creamy.

3. Fold in the Cool Whip and then give a few mixes with a wire whisk to completely combine. Set aside for a few minutes in the fridge.

4. In a separate bowl, combine the coffee and granulated sugar. Mix well.

5. Have your cake ready and either break up or slice thin pieces of cake and line your pan. You will be making two layers so don’t use it all for the bottom layer.

6. Dip a pastry brush into the coffee mixture and brush the cake slices until nicely coated. Use half of the coffee mixture for the first layer.

7. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the first layer. Top with remaining cake pieces.

8. Repeat brushing the cake with the remaining coffee mixture. You might not use all the liquid. That’s okay.

9. Spread the rest of the cream over the cake and smooth gently. Sprinkle the cocoa powder and shaved chocolate.

10. Place in fridge for at least 4 to 5 hours.

11. Remove from fridge, cut 9 large pieces.

12. Store in fridge up to 2 days. That’s if it lasts that long.

  Enjoy the deliciousness!
